Report from Dr. Susan Koenig

In 2022, WRC's Dr. Susan Koenig prepared an Expert's Report on Cockpit Country, to support a claim (No. SU2021CV-00187) which was filed in Jamaica's Supreme Court in January 2021. The claim was filed to argue that bauxite mining in the northeast region of Cockpit Country, under Special Mining Lease #173 (SML-173) is a breach of a citizen's right to "a healthy and productive environment free from the threat of injury or damage from environmental abuse and degradation of ecological heritage" (section 13(3)(1) and section 13(2) of Jamaica's Constitution).

Dr. Susan's report was filed with the Supreme Court on May 27th 2022 and, thus, is now available to the public . Click here for the 52-page report.
