Jamaican cuckoos, just like Old World cuckoos, are from the family Cuculidae, but are not brood parasites. The Chestnut-bellied Cuckoo is locally known as "Old man rain bird".
Like all of Jamaica's endemic wildlife, it is protected by the Wildlife Protection Act.
