ELDERSLIE

Elderslie is in St Elizabeth, Jamaica and the name derives from a Scottish placename.
A Baptist chapel was established there in 1840 but the present building appears substantially newer.

According to ex-Colonel Rowe of the Maroons, Elderslie is the site of one of the two Great Houses for the two white men who "had to constantly live with Captain Cudjoe" as per the Maroon Treaty. As I remember it, he stated that the other is Aberdeen.

'Wondrous Caves' or Maiden River Cave is located at nearby Cooks Bottom and has been used as a show cave. See threats to caves and histoplasmosis info.
